Lake Health "Best of Health article written about me

When I was asked if I would mind being interviewed for the Lake Health System's "Best of Health" quarterly magazine is 2014, I thought the purpose of the article was going to be highlighting the collaboration of Dr. Grassie, my surgeon, and Dr. Greer, my plastic surgeon, in treating breast cancer patients. Since their care was beyond amazing and more than I had ever imagined or hoped for, I was more than happy to sing their praises. I assumed my part would be small and perhaps just a line or two in the article and it would include other patients' testimonials as well. Earlier that year, I was interviewed and I also shared my Facebook page “Just Keep Swimming” because it had more details than what I probably could recall. When I received the first draft of the article, I was completely blown away that not only was the story about my journey, but they used the “Just Keep Swimming” theme as well. Wow. What a surprise. I was so moved, I cried as I read it. I think partly because it was a reminder that it really did happen and a lot of memories came rushing back as though it was yesterday. When I went on the photo shoot in June, I took the Dory I bought before my first surgery, the Dory that was with me through every surgery/procedure (yes, she was literally in the OR with me every time) and also the same Dory who my dad had in his possession as he fought HIS battle with cancer. Much to my surprise, the photographer had purchased the a stuffed Dory and a Nemo for the photo shoot. He ended up using my Dory.

The publication was distributed the last week in July 2014. Thank you, my friends and family, for helping me navigate this journey. I also can’t help but think of my inspirations who are no longer with us and those who have or who are currently fighting the battle. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of you all and remember how much you've helped me. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all my "floaties" who helped me keep swimming then and who help me keep swimming now. Xoxoxo
